The Northwest Indiana Democratic Socialists of America is proud to be partnering with Undue Medical Debt!  Together we are running a campaign to forgive medical debt for residents of NWI.  Through comparatively meager donations, we can expect to make a huge difference to those in our community weighed down by the costly burden of medical debt.
Here’s how it works – Undue Medical Debt has pre-allocated the purchase of roughly $1.5 million in medical debt for $15,000.  This debt is owed by residents of Lake, Porter, Laporte, and Saint Joseph Counties.  Upon NWI-DSA raising the funds, Undue will purchase and then immediately forgive all debts owed. Those no longer in debt will receive letters in the mail explaining that their debts are forgiven and how we accomplished it.
As Democratic Socialists, we believe it is wrong that people are forced into debt from sickness and injury.  We have a responsibility to help the most vulnerable in our communities, to stand in solidarity against a system that profits directly off the suffering of those most in need.  If you share these beliefs, please consider donating whatever you can.  Together we can better the lives of at-risk Hoosiers and send a message to the private healthcare industry – that the well being of our residents is not for sale.
